RETURN TO THE LOBBY                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    THE OCEAN LINERS

Welcome to our Aureol website celebrating this remarkable ship. She was the last flagship of Elder Dempster Lines and had a yacht like elegance. She sailed on their service from Liverpool to Lagos, Nigeria. From 1972 she sailed from Southampton instead. But by the mid 1970s the winds of change sweeping through Africa and also air travel was impacting on passenger numbers and Elder Dempster decided to retire her from service.  After being retired from service she was sold to the Latsis family in Greece. Despite surviving in remarkably intact condition for so many years she was sold and was scrapped in Alang, India in 2001.

This website aims to record the history of this fine British ocean liner and act as a virtual home to honour and commemorate this fine ship. We hope you enjoy this website and when you leave we hope you will visit again soon.
