RETURN TO THE HOMEPAGE                                                                                                                                                                                                                              THE OCEAN LINERS

Welcome to our Centaur website celebrating this remarkable and stylish combi liner. This unique passenger cargo ship was the last Blue Funnel passenger ship. She was built by the famous John Brown & Co. (Clydebank) Ltd for service on the Australia to Singapore service. She was retired from service in 1982 after becoming Blue Funnel's last passenger ship and the last liner operating regular scheduled services from Australia. She was much loved in Australia  and is remembered with great fondness by those who knew her.

After retirement by Blue Funnel she was briefly chartered for service on the UK to Ascension, St Helena and South Africa mailship service during the Falklands War. After this she returned to Blue Funnel and was sold to a Chinese company. She lingered on in service from Hong Kong to Shanghai until 1995 when she was retired from service and scrapped.

This website aims to record the history of this fine British ocean liner and act as a virtual home to honour and commemorate this fine ship. We hope you enjoy this website and when you leave we hope you will visit again soon.
