RETURN TO THE HOMEPAGE                                                                                                                                                                                                                             THE OCEAN LINERS

Welcome to our Malolo website celebrating this fine example of American marine engineering. In the 1920s and 1930s Matson reached a peak of expansion. With increasing passenger traffic to Hawaii, Matson Line introduced the Malolo in 1927. She was the fastest ship in the Pacific, cruising at 22 knots. Her success led to the construction of three sister ships: the Mariposa, Monterey and Lurline between 1930 and 1932. These were known as the great Matson liners and made the liner service from San Francisco to beautiful Hawaii, the South Pacific and Australia renowned. She and the Lurline operated Matson Line's traditional San Francisco to Hawaii service. After her years with Matson Line she continued in service for a variety of owners before being scrapped in the late 1970s.

This website aims to record the history of this fine ocean liner and act as a virtual home to honour and celebrate this fine ship. We hope you enjoy this website and when you leave we hope you will visit again soon.
