PENDENNIS CASTLE  1957

RETURN TO THE HOMEPAGE                                                                                                                                                                                                                            THE OCEAN LINERS

Welcome to our RMS Pendennis Castle website celebrating this stylish and beautiful mailship. She was built by Harland & Wolff in Belfast for Union-Castle Line. She was the replacement for the ageing 1921 built Arundel Castle. She had been ordered in early 1955 and her design had undergone many changes. However she became the best loved, finest and fastest mailship in the Union-Castle fleet. Famous as the "Fun Ship" of Union-Castle she loyally served until 1976 when she was withdrawn from service. She was sold but despite several owners she remained laid up in Hong Kong and sadly never sailed again. Eventually in 1980 she was sold to be scrapped in Kaoshiung in Taiwan, a sad end for a much loved and stylish ship.

This website aims to record the history of this fine British ocean liner and act as a virtual home to honour and commemorate this fine ship. We hope you enjoy this website and when you leave we hope you will visit again soon.
